Peter's career path has been, shall we say, somewhat more circuitous... Peter Shinn first began his career in human services as an addictions counselor and human relations instructor for the United States Air Force in 1988, and has worked in the military equal opportunity career field ever since. Shinn has the unusual distinction of having served as an equal opportunity advisor and substance abuse counselor at units for all three Air Force components — Active Duty, Reserve and Air National Guard - and has won awards in each for his outstanding accomplishments as an instructor, counselor and advisor. Shinn is currently the Military Equal Opportunity Officer at Sioux City Air National Guard Base in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. In April, Shinn completed the Academy of Military Science and was awarded a commission in the Iowa Air National Guard — also an unusual distinction given Shinn's 20 years in the enlisted ranks. In the civilian community, Shinn has focused on communications, working as Agri-Service Director and morning show co-host at WOW Radio in Omaha, Neb., as managing editor for Data Transmission Network, also in Omaha, and most recently as director of broadcast services for the National Association of Farm Broadcasting in Platte City, Mo. He has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Omaha, where he majored in Communications. |
